Let me paint a picture for you. You have scheduled a big flight to Florida for a family vacation. A few days before departure, you get a text saying your departure has been canceled. You scramble to find a flight to Florida but you realize all of the planes are booked up.
I have felt this panic before and I know many of you can relate to the gut-wrenching sickness welling within the pit of your stomach. Well, most likely the cause of this problem is because we have a real pilot shortage.
The major airlines are bringing in a record number of new pilots. Most of these pilots are skilled regional pilots. This is leaving a major void in regional carriers and a large pilot shortage in the regional world.
So what are regional carriers doing to combat this shortage? Well this is partly why it is a good time to be a pilot. Regional carriers are so desperate to get qualified pilots in the seats of their airplanes that they are paying out big bucks to get them. Here is a list of the current offers out there.
Envoy Airlines - Experienced Pilots: Earn up to $100K before your first day
Piedmont Airlines - Pilots with some part 121 experience can earn a $100K bonus on their first day
Each Airline is offering industry-leading pay or some sort of signing bonuses for new hires. They are doing everything they can to bring in pilots. I would like to give you the financial picture of a pilot after earning a CFI certificate.
CFI - $40,000 - $60,000 depending on your qualifications as a CFI. It will take a minimum of 2 years to become a CFI. Your training will cost $50,000 to $60,000 at most part 61 schools
Regional Carrier - $100,000+ in bonuses.
First Officer
Year 1 - $75,000
Year 2 - $85,000
Captain
Year 1 - $126,000
Year 2 - $130,000

The industry is booming right now and it is a great opportunity to find a great career. It isn't too late. If you are interested in pursuing a career as a pilot please reach out to our team at 4 One Air and we will be happy to discuss this further
